The story behind the piece…
Sandbar was inspired by one of the hidden sandbars I discovered whilst walking the Cornish coastline.
I was struck by the way the shifting shoreline seemed to appear and disappear with the tide, existing only for those willing to slow down and notice it. That fleeting moment became the starting point for this painting.
The piece incorporates locally collected sand alongside layers of acrylic and paper, creating a surface that echoes the textures of the shoreline itself. Hidden within the painting are handwritten lines of poetry written during that walk, quietly preserved beneath the layers of paint.
Like all of my original artwork, Sandbar began as words in a journal before becoming paint on a board.
It is currently hanging in my Cornwall studio and is waiting to find the right home.
